I started this a few years ago…
Last year, the most memorable thing was losing my 102-year old mom the day after Thanksgiving.
From 2022:
For me, it was my total knee replacement (TKR). I started posting about my knee issues way back in 2013 and did a lot of updates right until the morning of my surgery. I just realized I’ll have to update that blog with how I’m doing now.
Like most everything else in my life, having had Cushing’s (pituitary) made this surgery more difficult. My surgeon had to plan with my endocrinologist how much cortisol I’d need during the operation, then I had to stay overnight to get me successfully weaned off the cortisone again.
My kidney cancer also helped make this surgery a little trickier. Since I only have one kidney now, I’m not supposed to have any aspirin products. The surgeon wanted to use them to prevent blood clots and I didn’t want to look at possible future dialysis. So we reached a tentative compromise on that.
Physical therapy ended (hooray) and I’m pretty much “back to normal” whatever that means. I’m very glad I had this surgery with HAD being the operative (no pun intended!) word. I am no looking forward to my other knee.
Just before the end of the year I had my Johns Hopkins appointment and heard that there was a new once-a-week injectable growth hormone. If I give that a try, maybe that will be my 2024 update 🙂
