I’m 44 years old and I have always been around 130 pounds but now weigh 283.
When I was around 25 I started having joint pain and started gaining weight and that is when I first started noticing my small buffalo hump. As the years went on it started gaining more weight, irritability, couldn’t fall asleep til 3am and very tired and week all the time and doctors couldn’t find anything wrong.
After my last baby I started having chronic hives, headaches every day, body aches, muscle tightness, numbness and tingling in my left foot, hand and upper lip. Most of that finally passed or slowed down. I could keep going but but fast forward a bit.
My buffalo hump is pretty large now, all my weight is in my middle and my arms and legs are thin. With my weight as high as it is you would think they would be heavy. My face is round and solid red, few red stretch marks on my stomach, telangiectas, memory loss, concentration problems, headaches.
Three years ago for almost a year I had severe weakness in legs and arms, trouble breathing and swallowing. I was diagnosed with lupus 5 years ago and polymyositis(all of my lab has come back normal & emg on my muscles that there is no damage so I doubt this dx)
Now I don’t stay up til 3 but my usual bedtime is midnight. Sorry for rambling but there are so many things that go on with my body it’s hard to get it all out.
I would like to know if anyone in Oklahoma City area know of a endocrinologist that knows a lot about Cushings because if I have it I think I’m cyclical.

The symptoms you describe sound terrible and it is evident something is going on. Granted, I’m not a doctor by any stretch but as a person with an autoimmune disorder I was wondering if you have had testing for those diseases? I know there is at least one (maybe more) that attack the thyroid. It can be hard to get answers from doctors. I learned the hard way that when they say they’ll do “blood work” to see if everything is “normal” it doesn’t mean they are testing for everything, and of course blood work results do not necessarily rule a disease or problem out when deemed “normal” anyway. If you haven’t done it ask see a specialist in autoimmune disorders (and an endocrinologist makes sense too) or any other specialist pertaining to your symptoms. I empathize with you. And I know it can be made harder when there are no really answers and it feels like people don’t take you seriously. You have to fight for those answers. I had to do that. Good luck and I hope you get your answers soon.

I do see a good Rheumatologist and they say I have mild lupus. My thyroid has always been fine and about every 3 mths they run at lease 25 different test. I’ve only had 2 positive ANA’s but all the other panels are ok except my Creative protein is usually 9-17 which they tell me isn’t extremely high. The normal range goes to a 3. So when I have a lot of these symptoms I have my levels are usually not bad. Do you also have Cushing’s? If so, did it take you long to get your diagnosis?

I feel your pain,I have the classic symptoms of cushings syndrome and my Gp just ordered a 24 hour cortisol test from home. he says I know you dont have cushings syndrome but we will do this test and come back and see me in 6 weeks. I had produced a time line with pics showing that until 12 years ago when this all started I had been the same healthy girl and 129 until 46. I quit having periods at 36 clue. I had to increase my miles and gym time to 3 hours and 67 miles of running for those 12 years just to stay around 129 now am 240. I am so tired of being told to close my mouth (in other words quit eating and exercise more and get more rest by at least 4 of the 19 Doctors seen over the last 22 years. Pls consider going to Dr. Theodore Friedman’s website . I have read that many people with these symptoms have to go to a cushings specialist (he is considered one of the best), and travel from all over the world to see him. UCLA in California. I am providing his test procedures and pushing my New GP in hopes to get somewhere but if I cant I will make a appointment with him. I understand that he does not take insurance, if this is true than it will be very costly but I believe he does or will do a phone consult first if you cannot travel right away. He has documented several papers that have been published and they have been helpful.let me know how it goes and best of luck and fervent prayers you find your answers.
